A&S was established in 1948 by Anthony Scicchitano in Park Slope Brooklyn. Our Jefferson Valley store opened in 1998 by Mario Mancini.

Mario's background includes working ten years in the A&S Yonkers store and learning the business under the supervision and training of Joe, Tony and Nicky Competiello. In Yonkers, Mario worked his way through the kitchen preparing, cooking, butchering, and making sausage. The A&S Yonkers store did limited catering, but Mario took it to a new level, transforming the business to one of prepared foods and gourmet catering.

Mario loves his craft of fine food making and understands what it takes to succeed in the catering and foods business: selecting fresh meats and produce himself and never cutting corners. As Mario says "I don't sacrifice quality for price. I give you a great product for a great price." My mother used to say. "I didn't cut corners when I raised you, so you don't cut corners, ever!" Mario's mother comes in to work from time to time too. She's been cooking since the age of ten, when she lived in Callabria, Italy. Tradition runs in the family here at A&S.

You'll see Mario in the store everyday. He's one of those guys who rarely goes on vacation and when he does, he's never far away. Mario is truly dedicated to his customers. The day of his wedding he worked; he just left a little early to be at the church on time.

A&S has great chefs. All our chefs are professionals and have worked and trained in established Italian catering halls where they learned from traditional chefs. They are professional artists, who hand craft your orders for your specific needs.

Mario doesn't delegate cooking to inexperienced hands. He makes sure everything is made right. No one other than a great chef here at A&S cook its foods.
